I. Introduction

WEBZEN asks anyone who creates an account on the webzen.com portal to respect the rules outlined below.

Failure to comply with the rules means WEBZEN reserves the right to exclude an account from the use of WEBZEN services, such as games, forums and websites and, depending on the severity of the case, the right to legal action.

Those rules are applicable in conjunction with the WEBZEN Terms of Service, EULA and Privacy Policy found here:

Multiple breaches of any of the following rules will result in further action being taken, up to and including permanent exclusion from WEBZEN services. WEBZEN reserves the right to increase the penalties of individual cases.

WEBZEN will cooperate with investigations into illegal activities if we are contacted by an official authority, and reserves the right to contact the authorities to ensure the safety of our players.

Any information about rule violations will be handled anonymously, and in accordance with the Data Protection Act. WEBZEN will not disclose any information about any action taken against another account/account holder.

WEBZEN is not required to provide any explanation, justification, or proof regarding any action taken against an account/account holder. WEBZEN will strive to inform account holders of why an account was sanctioned but is not required to do so.

The code of conduct presented may not be comprehensive, and WEBZEN reserves the right to change it at any time and without prior notice. It is the responsibility of the player to regularly check for updates on the game rules.

We ask you to respect these rules to ensure a fun and stress-free gaming experience for both yourself and others.

We also ask you to immediately follow any requests or orders made by a WEBZEN employee on the game servers. Failure to follow these instructions may result in exclusion from WEBZEN services.

II. Rules

1. Account Security

Account holders are solely responsible for all activity on an account and for the security of their computer system. WEBZEN employees will never ask anyone to reveal their password.

a. Account Sharing

The transfer of account details to third parties, as well as the sharing of an account, is prohibited. The account holder is responsible for any action that may take place on his/her account. In the case of a shared account, the account will be penalized at WEBZEN’s discretion up to and including exclusion from WEBZEN services. The account holder furthermore loses any claim to support from WEBZEN.

b. Account Hacking/Compromised Accounts

Please note that the responsibility for the security of the characters on an account and of the account itself lies solely with the account holder.

This also applies in the case of “hacked” accounts. WEBZEN defines the term "hacking" as follows: The act of creating and/or distributing malicious software with the intent of breaching a system without the user’s consent. Malware comes in different forms - viruses, Trojans, spyware, adware, and other malicious or unwanted software. WEBZEN does not deem an account as "hacked" if the breach in security is caused by negligence on the part of the account holder.

Individuals who take part in such activities as the ones stated above will be penalized at WEBZEN’s discretion, up to and including exclusion from WEBZEN services. Players who accept an item without reasonable reciprocation run the risk of receiving a stolen item and being perceived as taking part in such illegal activity.

2. Inappropriate In-game Behaviour

Engaging in any kind of inappropriate behaviour in-game may result in penalties against the account with which the behaviour was committed. WEBZEN determines on a case-by-case basis whether a rule violation has taken place and what action will be taken, up to and including exclusion from WEBZEN services. In recurring cases, the extent of the penalties may be increased. Depending on the severity of the case, further action may also be taken.

Please note that reciprocating inappropriate behaviour will be sanctioned as well and is subject to the same penalties.

The list below contains examples of inappropriate behaviour, but is not meant to be exhaustive:

  • Toxic Behaviour/Spamming in Chat
  • Insults/Harassment
  • Threats
  • Racism
  • Sexual Harassment: This can include making insulting references about the sexual orientation of others, asking/inviting another player to perform "cybersex", or suggesting/attempting to invite underage players to perform sexual activities.
  • Asking GMs for special favours, items, knowledge, currency, or any other kind of special treatment.

3. In-game Names

When choosing a publicly visible name, be it for a guild, pet, or character, players are required to pay attention to its political and social acceptance. The rules regarding names apply to any publicly visible element of the game where a player can control the name, e.g. pets. A breach of these rules will lead to having the name changed to an appropriate one by WEBZEN. In the case of reoccurrence, this can lead to further action being taken.

The decision of whether or not a name complies with these rules lies solely with WEBZEN at all times. WEBZEN also reserves the right to change a name. If a player notices that their name does not adhere to these rules and contacts WEBZEN immediately, they may have the name changed.

The following general conditions apply when creating a character or guild. Names must have at least 2 characters but cannot be longer than 12 characters.

  • The name cannot contain any special characters or numbers.
  • A filter may be active, blocking certain combinations of characters.
  • Names must be unique.
  • All names must be deemed appropriate (as detailed below).

Inappropriate names:

Names may be considered inappropriate when fitting any of the following categorisations:

  • Names which allude to paedophilia, sexual violence, the glorification of violence, or which make reference to erotic and/or sexual terms and/or areas.
  • Racist, spiteful, nasty names, in addition to names which are intended as insults and names which may be construed as racial slurs.
  • Obscene, vulgar and rude names.
  • Particular historical names with racist connotations.
  • Names relating to illicit drugs or drug use.
  • Religious names or any names related to religion.
  • Names of political groups or any names related to politics.
  • Names which are intended for advertisement, publicity or propaganda.
  • Names of employees of WEBZEN, of GMs or similar.
  • Names which bear resemblance (written or phonetically) to the name of a GM.
  • Names which are copyrighted.

4. Exploitative Behaviour

Engaging in exploitative behaviour of any kind may result in penalties against the account with which the behaviour was committed. WEBZEN determines on a case-by-case basis whether a rule violation has taken place and what action will be taken, up to and including exclusion from WEBZEN services. In recurring cases, the extent of the penalties may be increased. Depending on the severity of the case, further action may also be taken.

The list below contains examples of exploitative behaviour, but is not meant to be exhaustive:

a. Macroing/Botting

The use or distribution of any kind of third party programs or applications to gain an advantage for oneself or others. This may also include macros that have been enabled through gaming hardware such as keyboards or mice.

b. Duping/Exploits/Bug Using

Any attempt to use a fault in the game which may give you or others an unfair advantage.

c. Modding

Modifying the game client or using software that modifies the game’s memory at runtime to gain an advantage.

d. In-game Trades/Fraud

It is recommended to trade items in-game only by using the supported game mechanics (e.g. trade window, personal shop, or auction house). Please be aware that it is the responsibility of the players to ensure that they engage only in safe trades and to check any items carefully before purchasing/trading them. You will not be eligible for any form of reimbursement should you engage in unsafe trading practices.

WEBZEN reserves the right to penalize attempts to circumvent the intended functionality of a supported game mechanic for fraudulent purposes at its discretion.

e. GM Impersonation/Account Phishing

Claiming to be a Game Master (GM), a member of the WEBZEN team, or someone who acts on their behalf, as well as any attempt to acquire player data in this manner.

f. False Reports

Any attempt to disadvantage another player by falsely reporting them.

5. Wcoin/Real Money

Engaging in any kind of fraudulent behaviour relating to any of the currencies used for WEBZEN services may result in penalties against the account with which the behaviour was committed. This also applies to any instance or attempt to sell or buy in-game contents, or WEBZEN accounts, to or from another player. WEBZEN determines on a case-by-case basis whether a rule violation has taken place and what action will be taken, up to and including exclusion from WEBZEN services. In recurring cases, the extent of the penalties may be increased. Depending on the severity of the case, further action may also be taken.

The list below is not meant to be exhaustive:

a. Goldselling

Offering or selling in-game currency for real money through any outside service.

b. Selling and/or Buying for Real Money

Selling and/or buying items, characters, or accounts using real money (including Paysafecard codes and any currency outside of the game). This also includes the use of services such as eBay or other similar platforms for such a purpose. WEBZEN reserves the right to penalize both the seller as well as the buyer.

6. Circulation of Harmful Websites or Illegal Services

It is prohibited to circulate links to illegal, dangerous or damaging websites. This includes but is not limited to so-called goldseller sites (which demonstrate a breach of the WEBZEN Terms of Service), phishing sites (websites which ask the visitor to enter their account details) and pages which contain information about illegal activities. Any violation of this rule will result in permanent exclusion from WEBZEN services.
